What is Red Bench™?
When asked of the owner recently in an interview: “Well, it’s a combination of things – it’s a photography studio, website design & social media marketing business, and the writing studio of Zushka Biros. But there’s more…”
Red Bench™ is the new kid on the block, appropriately for a former high school. "We're new here, but we're not new to the area, or to website design, social media marketing, modeling, photography and just about anything that feels good and works in creative expression in business."
My name is Sue Gregory and I am the owner of Red Bench™ Media, LLC. Eleven months ago I landed in Jerome, not quite sure what I was going to be creating. I rented a studio at the Jerome Art Center (the old Jerome High School) with the intent of using it as my office and writing studio. Red Bench™ Websites was open for business immediately.
Within days I noticed the natural light pouring through the large wall of windows. Making a short video of the nearly-empty classroom, including large blackboards on two of the walls, old hardwood floors and lots of space, I sent it to my photographers, whom I’ve been modeling for, for the past 4 years.
Almost immediately the photographers started coming up to the studio with their cameras. Weekly Photo Shoots were scheduled, and then the formation of monthly Photo Workshops emerged. So far, Red Bench™ has hosted 6 successful workshops, each one becoming more creative than the last and momentum is building. Photographers from all over the state have participated and there is now a waiting list of professional models. Photographers have booked the studio for private shoots with their models as well. Now the studio is full of props, including a stage and changing area, making it one of the most sought-after, unique, one-of-a-kind photo studios in the area.
This past summer, Red Bench™ Websites created the Jerome Art Center’s first ever website and social media. Blogs and posts have generated more foot-traffic through the buildings at the old high school, encouraging local support of its artists who occupy the spaces. “Artist of the Month” features one of the artists each month on the Jerome Art Center’s Home Page, and blogs emphasize what’s new, events and available rentals. We have put the Jerome Art Center on the map, so to speak.
The Jerome First Saturday Art Walk enlisted our talents during the springtime for promotional videos for Facebook. This is where the fun began. Each month statistics showed more and more people attending the Art Walk. When asked at our studio how people heard about the Art Walk, every one said “Facebook,” some mentioning the promo videos specifically, which brings me to another facet of Red Bench™. Keeping the studio open during the Art Walks, Red Bench™ became the social gathering spot for those visiting the Jerome Art Center. Free “Starving Artist Soup” and wine were offered to anyone stepping through the door, music played and a comfortable seating area on couches was made available, where conversations flowed into the evening.
The Jerome Indie Film & Music Festival hired our social media talents as well, and hosted a book signing event for Zushka Biros during the busiest day of the film fair. Being that Zushka’s writing studio is also located in the Red Bench™ studio, it made the book signing special, winding down her summer-long Book Signing Tour in Jerome.
What’s coming up this fall and winter at Red Bench™?
The studio will transform into a Photo Gallery (Red Bench™ Gallery) beginning with Karl Mullings of KFM Designs out of Flagstaff. Each month another photographer will be featured, along with an Art Opening during the First Saturday Art Walks, including food, wine and live music. The gallery is booked through the end of February with photographers from around the state, each one showing their specific style of photographs, matted and ready for sale.
Live music performances are in the works, as well as monthly Belly Dance and Kundalini Workshops and Modeling Classes. You can check out our calendar of events on redbenchwebsites.com, and redbenchphotography.weebly.com. Don’t forget to take a look at Zushka’s latest book, The Secret Butterfly Trail (as recently mentioned on NPR), and find her at one of her upcoming book signings at zushkabiros.com.
The space is available for events, meetings and classes. You can contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m looking forward to meeting you all at the First Saturday Art Walk on October 7th! Come for a visit, or just stand back and watch us grow!
